Mt. Hood Arts

The Mt. Hood Festival of the Forest invites everyone to their first arts contest. The contest theme is centered on the beauty and inspiration of Mt. Hood the mountain, Mt. Hood National Forest. The date is Sept. 17.

Open to Juniors (ages 0-12), Young Adults (13-19) and Masters (ages 20 & above), the contest includes a variety of media. Listed are: Photography, Paintings and Drawings, Handcrafted Art (clay, glass, porcelain, metal, rock, wood, fiber or fabric), Literary (poems, verse, etc), Video and Music. All artist backgrounds are welcome; amateurs and professionals are encouraged to enter.

The scenic Wildwood Recreation Area, on Hwy 26 in Welches, Ore., is the location. Entries must be submitted to the contest area by 10 a.m. on Sept. 17. The announcement of winners will begin at 4  p.m. that day at the Music Tent.

The contest entry fee is $10. If you pre-register by Sept. 10, an information packet will be waiting for you at the front gate of the festival, and your gate entrance fee of $5 is waived. Those arriving on Sept. 17 pay the gate entrance fee and registration fee at the gate.

Prizes for the first, second and third place winners in each age category in each medium, are based on a percentage of the proceeds for that group.

This festival is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Mt. Hood National Forest in its natural habitat. The artworks entered in the contest are a lovely reflection of the artists’ view of the forest and mountain. It is exciting to contemplate what variety of perspective and experience each entrant will display. Rather than the end of summer, the month of September heralds the beginning of autumn.
