GIRLS NIGHT OUT
By Steve Johnson
The best of your favorites would be a good way to describe "Girls
Night Out." Featuring Sonny Hess, Megan James and Lisa Mann in
an acoustic format packed with harmonies that ring like a set of chimes,
all three of these girls have lead vocalist voices and training. Add
that to lots of studio experience and a lifetime of live performances
and you hear the thing that most groups shy away from.
The trio started this acoustic sound at the blues festival last year.
This writer was present to hear them perform some of the favorite blues
tunes that they are so well known for. What they are not so well known
for yet is the style of music you can hear at the Trail's End, in Oregon
City, on Thursday nights and at Hopper's on 112th and S.E. Division,
on Tuesdays.
As you listen to the great harmony tunes so well-liked from the Eagles
and the Beatles, of John Cougar Mellenkamp, you will see why this is
to be a new and very pleasing format for this talented trio. They will
occasionally make use of a percussionist, but most of the focus for
them is acoustic.
You will hear a fair amount of original material as well, as all three
are accomplished song writers. Be sure to look for "Girls Night
Out" in June at the Art Fair and also at the Rose Festival. Tuesdays
they are featured at Hopper's on 112th and Division and Thursdays at
the Trail's End in Oregon City. They are certainly worth the trip.
